The reasons why Franz Schubert left the third and fourth movements of his Sonata composed in 1825, so-called “Reliquie”, unfinished can only be conjectured. The renowned musicologist Bernhard Billeter has completed the two movements and expounded his reflections on the subject in detail in the present edition.
Thus to the amateur player of Schubert's piano music as well as to the concert pianist is given the possibility to play the sonata as a finished work.

«Billeter has achieved something that has until now been missing. He remains unfailingly committed to Schubert‘s model, yet dares some formal and harmonic surprises that indeed bring such a stylistic exercise to life.»
